Located in Toledo, Ohio, founder Roy Conklin, registered the patent for the first working automatic filling mechanism in 1897. Conklin is recognized as creating one of the world’s first practical self-filling fountain pens.

Most Conklin fountain pens will accept cartridges or can be used with a converter and bottled ink. A few collector pens are bottled ink only.
